Longines have a rich history and a gargantuan back catalogue that is the envy of most watch manufactures the world over. For this reason, recreating historic pieces is a tough choice of what to choose, but one thing is guaranteed, a watch will be produced that is spectacular in design and function. With that being said this ‘Pilot Majetek’ (L2.838.4.53.0) is a remarkable recreation from a design first used in the 1930’s.
The ‘cushion’ shaping of the case is an obvious aesthetical stand out. The 43mm stainless steel form looks and feels military -esque, and it was. In 1935 this timepiece was specifically made for Czech Pilots with some eventually produced for civilian use. Longines’ past with aviation is a big part of the makeup of the brand and continues to be so today.
Extra military and aviation features used with the watch is the rotating fluted bezel, which controls the placement of a lumed triangular pip. You can utilise this feature to time up to an hour and has a great novelty factor as you rotate the bezel and the pip moves around the inside of the sapphire crystal.
As this watch is a special-edition box set, it is supplied with an impressive collectors display case and two strap options, both a brown calf leather with steel buckle and khaki NATO. A book is also included in the case with a great summary of the history of Longines and timekeeping.
Longines Swiss self-winding mechanical calibre L893 movement applies functions of hours, minutes and small seconds beating at 25'200 vibrations per hour with power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
With all Longines watches you will receive a 2-year international warranty against any servicing operation.
