Oris have created a reputation over the last few years for their impeccable bronze special edition watches. The boom in bronze watches in the late 2010s is arguably responsible to Oris’s popular designs and then capitalised on by other Swiss watch brands. From then on, bronze timepieces are now a staple in many brands collections with Oris still creating beautiful, coloured dials to feature the rich colour with.
Some say that without the big crown pointer date, Oris might not enjoy its status as a leader in Swiss made mechanical watches. The pointer date function was first introduced in 1938 and remains a symbol of the brand to this day, an unusual complication that highlights the date effective by a central pointer hand. As with all big crown watches, the crown is oversized to allow airmen to easily adjust the settings whilst wearing gloves.
A 40mm case is cast in bronze with a fluted bezel that will naturally patina over time. The bronze oxidises, meaning no two watches will look the same having their own unique look over time, as the bronze forms its own colouration with flecks of green and brown. We love the way Oris have developed their skills of casting bronze cases and find that the blue dial of this watch is a fantastic addition to the overall look.
The watch is powered by an Oris 754, base SW 200-1, Oris believe in the true art form of watch making with none of their products featuring battery movements.
